The Graduates Of the Last Decade (GOLD) program is an IEEE entity working at providing benefits for young IEEE members after their Student Member status has expired. If you are an IEEE Member who graduated with your first professional degree within the last ten years, you are automatically part of IEEE GOLD. Around the world, there are over 47,000 GOLD members and 100 GOLD Affinity Groups. Check out the official GOLD webpage for details: www.ieee.org/gold
The continuing goal of GOLD is to find out what students need from their Society at this particular stage of their careers and how their Society can in turn offer additional value of membership.
We are trying to build up a global community of EMBS GOLD members. The aim is to create a vibrant community of volunteers that organize events locally to leverage membership benefits and participation. Please contact Matthias Reumann (mreumann@ieee.org) if you want to become part of the team. Bi-monthly conference calls will be held to update ourselves on activities around the globe and how you can impact your local community to create a professional home for our EMBS GOLD members.
MGA GOLD is very active in the area of humanitarian projects. In EMBS we have many humanitarian projects going on as well. EMBS GOLD is currently trying to build a team of volunteers to increase awareness of these projects and to help enthusiastic GOLD members to get involved.
We have launched the new EMBS GOLD Resource Center! We are trying to compile documents and links for you that will help you in building up your portfolio, improve your skills, both technical and non-technical and help you in your career. Building up this resource center is a continuous work in progress. So please give us your feedback and tell us what you need and want to see in our new
.EMBS GOLD Resource Center. Currently you will find a link to handouts of the presentations given at the "Scientific Writing" session at the EMBC 2009 Conference in Minneapolis. For feedback and contact, please send an e-mail to Matthias Reumann: mreumann@ieee.org.
Thank you all that participated in the EMBC 2009 GOLD networking reception. Around 100 students and GOLD members attended and had the opportunity to talk and network with our peers. The feedback we recieved was overwhelmingly enthusiastic. In the future, we intend to put your feedback into action. Many people wished for more social events at the EMBS Annual Conference. We are trying to put this feedback into action at the EMBC 2010 conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Be prepared for exciting news in the coming month.
There are many benefits joining the GOLD network. The range covers technical and career programs as well as public programs and opportunities like humanitarian initiatives and local affinity groups. Here is a list of benefits you may be interested to take parti in:
The EMBS GOLD Resource Center will hold documents and information for you to download or revisit. This information is compiled based on past activities at conferences and workshops. This way you will have access to the material all year around to your convenience.

The GOLDRush newsletter informs you about current activities of IEEE GOLD. For the current issue of the newsletter, please visit http://www.ieee.org/web/membership/gold/newsletter/index.html.
GOLD takes advantage of IEEE resources to be able to host a variety of Webinars. Webinars are online online Seminars that last about one hour. Upcoming Webinars this year will address negotiation skills, conflict and diversity management. Please go to www.ieee.org/web/membership/gold/events/ArunGsessions09.html to learn more about the upcoming and past webinars.
The IEEE has introduced a mentoring program which is perfectly suited for the GOLD members. I would like to encourage EMBS members in all IEEE chapters to participate ? either as mentors or mentees. To have an IEEE member as mentor offers great opportunities. When being challenged by a situation especially at the beginning of one?s career, it is good to talk to someone with experience. To have someone from outside one?s company or institute to confide in and to get help from makes it possible to view the situation more objectively and helps you to think outside the box. The mentoring program offers a great tool for networking opportunities, as well. Information on how to participate already as Mentor or Mentee can be found on the IEEE hompage at www.ieee.org/mentoring.
